General Cleaning Tips for Komori Printing Presses

When it comes to cleaning and maintaining printing presses, almost everyone has a love/hate relationship with the process. However, these are tasks that should be performed regularly to maintain proper press performance. Komori Press equipment is no exception. While two main types of presses are available, each with specific methods for maintaining, here are a few general tips to keep your press and surrounding areas clean and in top-notch condition.

  • Schedule a time each week for regular maintenance of your press.
  • Create a logbook outlining steps and tools needed to perform maintenance tasks and allotted times for each job. Provide extra space for the addition of notes detailing observations, parts replaced, or need replacing. Finally, detail safety requirements for maintenance tasks, including proper PPE needs and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Provide training to qualified personnel.
  • Perform visual checks to all significant areas of the press. Provide required maintenance or repairs as needed.

Types of Komori Presses and Print Unit Maintenance Requirements

Did you know that each type of Komori press has different needs and requirements for cleaning and maintenance? Here is a general guide to proper cleaning and maintenance of print units for each:

  • Digital Presses – Start the press cleaning process by running a service mode test print to determine any print quality differences since the last maintenance and cleaning session. Inspect and replace all worn parts. Inspect and clean the feed assembly and any accessories (such as the cleaning blades, drums, and starters). Make sure the parts you replace meet or are adjusted to your system specifications. Finally, check the print driver and run any system software updates (if applicable).
  • Offset Presses – Check the roller settings to make sure they meet the specifications of the manufacturer. Clean the roller ends, side frames, and replace disposable ink fountain liners as needed. Clean the water trays. Flush out the water system and replace it with new water. Check bearer pressures. Replace blankets if needed. Inspect and replace any necessary components. Also, clean around the print unit area to eliminate any dust that can get in the machinery.

Make Cleaning Your Komori Press Easier

No matter what press equipment your company uses, setting a regular maintenance schedule, and sticking to it, is key to quality press performance. Since each type of Komori Press has different requirements, maintenance downtimes will vary. Remember to schedule enough time to safely and effectively perform the tasks outlined.
