Ryobi Press Cleaning Tips

It seems obvious to say it is crucial to keep your Ryobi press equipment clean, but a reminder certainly never hurts. Keeping your Ryobi printing press clean ensures it operates at maximum efficiency and remains productive for a long time. Keeping your Ryobi press in top condition is vital as the rollers and inkwells must work in perfect harmony to get the desired image onto the targeted paper. If you need help or guidance when it comes to keeping your rollers and inkwells clean, you don’t need to go any further, as we have put together a list of the top tips when it comes to your Ryobi offset press cleaning process. Keep reading below as we share the key factors related to cleaning rollers and inkwells on your Ryobi press equipment.

Things to Consider When Cleaning Rollers and Inkwells

Follow these top tips to keep your rollers and inkwells clean on a daily basis:

  1. Remove as much ink as possible as soon as a print run ends. Once the ink has dried on the roller, it can be a frustrating and challenging experience to get all the ink removed before your next print run. Use an appropriate cleaner for the type of ink you are using on the rollers and inkwells. There is no “one cleaner fits all” solution, so don’t be afraid to experiment to find the right cleaner for your needs.
  1. When cleaning print decks, be sure to wipe any excessive cleaning agents still on press equipment.  Cleaner residue can impact the performance of your ink. We recommend using a roller conditioner, such as Easy Street, on your rollers once a month to prevent glazing and maintain roller life. Follow the directions on the tube for maximum effectiveness.
  1. Are you running cloth molleton covers? If so, rinse them with hot water either at the end of the day or in-between color changes. Molleton covers soak up water in the same manner as a bath towel. They take a long time to dry if they get too wet, so blotting off excess water prevents any delays in performing print runs. Consider blotting the excess water by rolling the covers on an absorbent wash-up sheet.
  1. Rubber rollers should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from exposure to either direct natural light or bright artificial light.  To eliminate pressure marks, set rollers on frames which support the journals or bearing.

Problems that can Arise if Rollers aren’t Cleaned Properly

Believe it or not, Improper roller maintenance can lead to several print issues, including:

  • Color Inconsistency
  • Poor Solids or Mottling
  • Streaks
  • Dirty Print Results
  • Excessive Dot Gain

Any of the above issues can result in inferior print quality, excessive press downtime, overage on print run costs, shortened life of the rollers, and in some cases, customers rejecting the finished product. These risks can be avoided, in part, by performing proper cleaning and maintenance.
